Police have Lott to answer for
Haven't the Mountain Safety Council and the New Zealand Council of Licensed Firearms Owners shot themselves in the feet.
Not to mention the police, whose new minister, Annette King, yesterday opened a opened a gun safety conference in Christchurch organised by the trio.

The conference is titled, with what may be unconscious irony, In the right hands.

Green MP Keith Locke challenged the police to explain why it "smuggled in" pro-gun lobbyists under the guise of a firearms safety seminar.

"They need to come clean, both to the public and to the participants who genuinely think this is a safety conference," Locke said.

He could have gone further. The presence of John Lott as a keynote speaker destroys the conference’s supposed objectivity.

Lott has been exposed as a liar who not only fakes data to prove his claims gun ownership reduces crime, he also created a phoney personality,
Mary Rosh
, to defend himself on Internet fora. More faking here.

While his cv touts stints at the University of Chicago, Yale, Stanford, UCLA, Wharton and Rice, his current gig is as a “resident scholar” at the American Enterprise Institute.

The AEI is one of the many right wing think tanks which provide bogus research to justify US policies. More here.

Update: The Gun Guys take on Lott.
